THE JOURNEY

Overview

Experience the African wilderness after sunset with an exciting night game drive in Tarangire, Lake Manyara, or selected private concessions and designated areas near Serengeti National Park. As daylight fades and nocturnal animals become more active, the bush takes on a completely different atmosphere. Guided by an experienced safari guide using a specially equipped 4x4 vehicle and a spotlight, this adventure offers a rare opportunity to discover wildlife that is often difficult to encounter during ordinary daytime game drives. Your experience begins after sunset, when you head into the wilderness accompanied by a knowledgeable guide. Using a spotlight to scan the surrounding vegetation and open areas, your guide will help you spot animals moving through the darkness, explain their nocturnal behaviour, and share fascinating insights into how different species adapt to life after dark. As the night unfolds, keep watch for fascinating nocturnal species such as bushbabies, African civets, genets, porcupines, and white-tailed mongooses. You may also encounter spotted hyenas searching for food, leopards moving quietly through the bush, or other predators beginning their nighttime activities. Although sightings are never guaranteed, the excitement of searching for wildlife under the African night sky makes every drive unique. Each location offers a slightly different experience: - Tarangire: Explore the wildlife-rich areas around the park and neighbouring community conservation areas, where nocturnal animals move through baobab woodlands and open bushland. - Lake Manyara: Discover the park's diverse habitats after dark, with opportunities to look for nocturnal mammals and experience the sounds of the forest and surrounding wilderness. - Near Serengeti: Enjoy a night drive in selected private concessions and community wildlife areas bordering Serengeti National Park, such as Grumeti, Ikoma, or Loliondo. These areas allow visitors to experience the Serengeti ecosystem after sunset without entering the national park itself. Most night game drives last approximately two to three hours, depending on the location and arrangements. Throughout the experience, your guide will explain animal behaviour, identify nocturnal species, and share fascinating details about how wildlife adapts to life in the darkness. A night game drive is an excellent addition to a Tanzania safari, offering a different perspective on the African wilderness and an opportunity to discover animals and behaviours that are rarely seen during daylight hours. Important information: Night game drives are subject to local conservation regulations, permits, and availability. They are permitted in designated areas of Tarangire and Lake Manyara under specific guidelines, while near Serengeti they take place in private concessions or community wildlife areas outside the national park. Night drives are not permitted inside Serengeti National Park itself. Advance arrangements and suitable accommodation in the relevant area may be required
