Safari Highlights

Safari Itinerary

  • Arrival in Tanzania

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you'll be greeted by the warm Tanzanian air and transferred to your hotel in either Moshi or Arusha, depending on your preference or tour operator's arrangements. After settling in, you'll have an initial meeting with your climbing team and guide. This meeting serves as an opportunity to discuss the upcoming trek, go over the itinerary, and ensure that you have all the necessary equipment. Take this time to rest and prepare mentally and physically for the adventure ahead.

  • Day 1: Umbwe Gate to Umbwe Cave Camp (2,850m)

Start your trek from the Umbwe Gate, ascending through dense rainforest on a steep and narrow path. This initial 5-7 hour hike is demanding but rewarding, as it leads you to Umbwe Cave Camp, where you’ll spend the night surrounded by lush vegetation.

  • Day 2: Umbwe Cave Camp to Barranco Camp (3,900m)

Continue the ascent through the forest and into the moorland zone. The trail remains steep and challenging, offering stunning views as you climb. After 4-6 hours, you’ll reach Barranco Camp, situated in a beautiful valley below the Breach Wall, with magnificent views of Kibo and the surrounding landscape.

  • Day 3: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp (3,995m)

Begin your day by tackling the Barranco Wall, a challenging yet exhilarating scramble that offers breathtaking vistas. After conquering the wall, continue through the undulating terrain of the Karanga Valley. This 4-5 hour trek leads you to Karanga Camp, providing a good acclimatization opportunity and stunning views of the surrounding peaks.

  • Day 4: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp (4,673m)

Climb steadily towards Barafu Camp, the base camp for your summit attempt. The 4-5 hour trek takes you through a desolate, lunar landscape, with occasional views of the peak in the distance. Upon reaching Barafu Camp, rest and prepare for the final ascent, with an early dinner and an early night’s sleep.

  • Day 5: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) to Mweka Camp (3,068m)

Begin your summit push around midnight, trekking through the dark, cold night to reach Stella Point at dawn. From there, continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa, to witness the sunrise. After celebrating your achievement, descend back to Barafu Camp for a short rest before continuing down to Mweka Camp. This long and grueling day typically takes 12-15 hours, covering significant elevation changes.

  • Day 6: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate (1,640m) Attempt - Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak and Mweka Camp

Descend through the lush rainforest on your final day, trekking for 3-4 hours to reach Mweka Gate. At the gate, you’ll receive your summit certificates and bid farewell to your trekking team before being transferred back to your hotel, reflecting on the incredible journey you’ve just completed.
