Today’s trek is long and challenging as you make your way to Kibo Hut (4,703 meters). The landscape changes dramatically as you move into the alpine desert zone, with sparse vegetation and rocky terrain. Along the way, you will pass the Last Water Point at 4,130 meters, where you can fill up your water bottles. The trail continues across the Saddle, a wide, barren plain connecting the two peaks of Kibo and Mawenzi. The route ascends through a series of switchbacks until you reach Gilman’s Point (5,685 meters) on the crater rim. From here, it’s a gradual climb to Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters), the highest point in Africa. Witness the breathtaking sunrise and take in the magnificent views from the summit. After celebrating your achievement and taking photos, you will begin your descent back to Kibo Hut for a short rest and breakfast.
